July's 'Love Me Beauty' Review

Since May I've been receiving little monthly treats through the letterbox, in the form of my Love Me Beauty* order. Dubbed 'the beauty subscription service with a difference', unlike others around, it allows you to choose which products you want to receive each month, rather than them being picked for you. Although this takes out the element of surprise, it does mean you’re guaranteed to receive only products that you want to try. A £10 monthly subscription gives you 60 credits which are redeemable against all products in their online boutique, and you can add on extra tokens as and when you like if your choices exceed 60 credits.

Each month new brands and products are added, and these range across makeup, skincare, haircare and accessories, so there is always something new and exciting to choose from. Plus rather than the traditional box, each month your order turns up in a handbag sized canvas zip top bag which always has either a cute print or quirky slogan on. Sounds good, huh?

So what did I receive this month….?

I’ve fallen out of love with foundation brushes recently, instead preferring to apply my base with sponges, but the name of this brush- ‘skin perfecting’- drew me in, especially as it claims to 'magic away imperfections.' The synthetic brush is angled and is designed to be used in buffing motions- I dip the brush in my foundation, and apply to the centre of the face first, working outwards (this helps to eliminate harsh lines around the jaw and hairline) and then repeat depending on the level of coverage I'm going for. It reminds me of one of my favourite ever brushes by Real Techniques as they are both have the same firm bristles and work best when product is buffed into the skin. I find this does give me a really great finish as my foundation and skin almost blend together, rather than my foundation just sitting on the top. As with all of the EcoTools range, this brush is made from recycled materials (including a recycled bamboo handle) and is cruelty free!

The second full sized product this month is this duo of sponges, also by EcoTools. If you read my last post (catch up here if not) you’ll know that I’m a sucker for a cosmetic sponge, with the cult sponge the Beauty Blender being my absolute fave, but I always love to try new brands as well to see how theirs compare. The first thing to mention about these sponges is that unlike most of their competitors, the shape of them is a mix of round and flat, tailored for different areas of the face. Best used damp, the dark sponge is perfect for applying foundation, and the lighter green sponge works best when paired with concealer thanks to its size and denser texture. Both are a dream to work with thanks to their light, bouncy texture, and although they're not quite as amazing as the Beauty Blender, they're pretty good as a cheaper alternative- they retail for around a third of the price.

Nails Inc NailKale in Fulham Palace Road (25 Credits) FULL SIZE
The final full size product I received this month (all three full sized products add up to over £30, btw and used 65 credits) is this NailKale nail polish by cult brand Nails Inc. I usually prefer gel polish on my nails as I find it has the longevity that nail polish does not, however this really appealed to me as it contains bee pollen, vitamins and folic acid, so not only does it give your nails a gorgeous pop of glossy colour, but also helps your nails to grow, and looks after them from the inside. I chose Fulham Palace Road, a classic candy pink, but there are 3 other colours in the range that you can chose from the Love Me Beauty Boutique, as well as 2 of their gel effect polishes.

I’ve been using these pads for around 6 months now and I’m obsessed by them, so I was really happy that LMB offered a travel size version. Containing glycolic acid, they help to gently exfoliate, removing dead skin cells and giving a more radiant finish. Even though there are only 5 pads in the pot, they will see me through a couple of weekends away, especially because the full size pot is quite cumbersome and takes up a lot of space in my cosmetics bag.

My recent routine of late nights, early mornings and too much coffee have taken their toll, and left me with prominent dark circles under my eyes which take A LOT of concealer to cover. This little sachet from Rodial contains 2 mini masks that go under each eye, and help not only to soothe tired eyes, but also to reduce puffiness, firm and smooth the under eye area. Designed to be used just once, simply place under the eyes and leave for 20-30 minutes, then dab any excess product in gently. My eye area instantly felt revitalized after use, and I feel like these could definitely be a monthly addition to my skincare routine.
