April's Beauty Favourites

It's been a while since I've posted a 'monthly favourites' round up. I've been pretty boring when it comes to my product choices and there hasn't been anything that I've loved enough to write about up until now, but thankfully there are a few new additions to my beauty routine which have made the cut, and I'm excited to share them with you all.

My favourites for April are a mix of products I've bought myself and gifted products, but as always I only ever feature gifted products in a favourites post if I absolutely love them. The rule for me is if I like them enough to re buy them, they make the cut! I've got some skincare, haircare, makeup, and even a new teeth whitening product (and discount code) to talk about today, all of which I've been using and loving over the past few months.

Burts Bees recently introduced an 18 shade collection of lipsticks, and 'Juniper Water' has become a makeup bag staple for me over the past few weeks. All of the lipsticks are natural and offer full coverage with a satin finish, plus ingredients such as beeswax and raspberry seed oil mean that these lipsticks don't dry the lips out like so many others do. Juniper water is matte blue based plum (tip- blue based lipsticks make your teeth look whiter) and it's become my 'go-to' lipstick of choice for the evening- I love teaming a berry lip with an eyeliner flick and lots of mascara. All of the lipsticks retail for £9.99, and are encased in ultra cute honeycomb inspired packing.

My hairdresser introduced me to this product a couple of months ago, and I've been using it religiously every time I wash my hair ever since. Designed to be used on wet hair prior to blow drying, it works as a primer for the hair, protects against heat damage, whilst also reducing drying time as well. Simply shake the bottle, spritz throughout the hair, and dry as usual. I absolutely hate blow drying my hair, so the fact that this cuts drying time is a real bonus, plus my hair is constantly subject to a LOT of heat from drying/ straightening/ curling and have never really used heat protection before, so I now feel that I'm doing my poor neglected hair, some good. The only downside to this product is the fragrance. It's not unpleasant, however it has an almost stagnant/ gone off perfume smell about it. Once my hair is dry, however, the smell seems to subside, but that would be the only negative for me. Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer retails for £17.50, however it is currently on offer on Look Fantastic for £12.25.

You can't beat a white smile, and i'm always on the hunt for products that will make my teeth look whiter and brighter, without damaging the tooth enamel. What first appealed to me about this product from Just Smile London is that it is 100% natural, and not only whitens the teeth by up to 6 shades in just one week, but it also contains anti- fungal and anti- bacterial properties which helps to prevent and fight gum disease. The fine powder is made from organic coconut shells which are heated at very high temperatures- this makes them porous which then helps to absorb toxins and stains, and therefore making the teeth look whiter. Designed to be used twice a day, simply dip a wet toothbrush into the charcoal, brush for 2 minutes, paying special attention to areas that are the most stained, then rinse the mouth until all traces of the charcoal are gone. A little tip- this can be very messy, so I use a separate toothbrush to the one I use for toothpaste, and trust me when I say a little really does go a long way! This product retails for £12.99, but you can get 10% off your ordering by using my unique discount code 'Beth10' at the checkout.
I can be fussy when it comes to mascara, and if i'm honest, almost all of my disappointments over the years have been from higher end brands rather than high street. There's nothing worse than splurging on a high end mascara, only to find that it doesn't give the desired lift, curl or volume you desire, and then it ends up in the bottom of a makeup bag or drawer, practically untouched. Lashes are a real personal thing, and I've found, through a process of elimination, that high street mascaras seem to work best for my mid length- sparse ones. I was first drawn in by this mascara simply because Gigi is the face of it (there, I said it.) Saying that, I've had success with Maybelline mascaras in the past, and prefer a small brush to a large one, so the Gigi thing, and its comb style 'angel wing' brush won me over. I brush down through my lashes, then up again, and this technique, along with the fact the small brush seems to cling to and coat every single lash, gives me my desired wide eyed, fluttery look. At around £7.99, it's really affordable, doesn't transfer or flake off like many other cheaper mascaras, and can beeasily removed with an oil based makeup remover.

At the end of March I was invited to the Skinny Tan launch event for their newest product- the one hour express mousse- and was lucky enough to come home with a goody bag containing lots of products including the mousse, and the pre tan primer, both of which I've fallen in love with. Like all of Skinny Tan's products, these both have the infamous count scent, and the tan contains all natural ingredients and skin smoothing properties that help to contour the skin and even reduce cellulite. The day before I want to apply my tan, I exfoliate in the shower using the pre tan primer, which helps buff away dead skin cells, then the next day will apply the mousse in circular motions using my dual tanning mitt. The mousse is tinted, and this not only acts as a guide colour, but also a bronzer, so you immediately have a hint of colour. The thing I love the most about this tan is that I'm in control of how dark I want to be, and the length of time I leave the mousse on for deciphers this- after one hour you have a medium tan, two hours gives a medium to dark tan and three hours a dark tan. I haven't used any other tanning products where you see results after just an hour, so this is a real plus point in my eyes. The one hour express mousse retails for £29.99 and the pre tan primer for £9.99- both are available on Skinny Tan's website or in Superdrug stores nationwide.

I first used Konjac sponges last year, and the lovely people at the Konjac Sponge Company sent me their latest range of products- the rainforest collection- when it launched at the beginning of April. Made from french clay and blended vegetable fibres, the sponges can be used on the face and body, with or without cleanser, as part of your everyday skincare routine. The mini sponges are PH neutral for perfectly balanced skin, and once wet, swell slightly and become soft, which makes them suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Each of the four animals- toucan, sloth, tree frog and monkey- contain slightly different properties aimed at different skin ailments- for example tree frog contains green french clay for oily/ combination skin, and monkey contains red french clay which is great used on dry, damaged or mature skin. The sponges help to refine pores, are 100% natural, colour and additive free, and retail at £6.99 each or £25 for all 4.
