Haircare | The new way to wash hair with 'Unwash'

I'm a simple kinda gal when it comes to my hair. I wash it every other day using any old shampoo and conditioner (usually whatever is on offer in Boots), then rough dry it, run the straighteners over the ends, and I'm good to go. I've never been particularly great at styling it either and tend to stick to a just couple of 'dos. Yep, I suppose you could say I'm quite lazy when it comes to my haircare habits, but I'm then the first to complain that my hair is lank and lifeless, or that it doesn't look like the amazing manes I see in magazines and on social media.

In a bid to mix it up a bit, step out my comfort zone and try something different, I've been using a new haircare system by American company Unwash. It challenges the traditional shampoo, condition, repeat routine that we have become so used to, by replacing it with one main product that acts as both a shampoo and conditioner, and then additional products to use alongside it when your hair needs a bit of extra love. It also claims to be kinder to hair than regular shampoo and conditioners as it doesn't contain any parabens, or strip the hair of its natural oils.

I've been using the 3 products from the Unwash 'try me kit' which is the perfect introduction to the brand and its products. It contains the bio cleansing conditioner which can be used regularly in replacement of your usual shampoo and conditioner, and the the anti-residue cleanse and hydrating masque which are for occasional use- perfect when your hair feels a bit limp, weighed down, or just needs a boost. All 3 are 75ml in size, which makes them perfect for travel, and it's a great way to try the products without having to invest in huge bottles.

At first, I felt a bit odd using the bio cleansing conditioner alone with no additional product alongside it. I usually only apply conditioner to the ends of my hair, so putting it all over and working it into my scalp went against all the rules- plus the fact that it didn't foam like a regular shampoo would made me think that it wasn't cleaning my hair at all. I half expected it to feel greasy as it sometimes does when I overdo it with the conditioner, but it didn't at all, quite the opposite in fact. Some of the other benefits that come from using the Unwash system is that the products help cut drying time (they are so gentle that the hair cuticle isn't disrupted, and this means that no excess water is absorbed) AND they also smell absolutely amazing- think fresh laundry but even better.

After using the 3 products for the past few weeks (the bio cleansing conditioner every 2 days and the anti- residue cleanser followed by the hydrating masque  once a week) I have to say I'm really impressed how my hair feels and looks. I often end up with quite matte looking hair with my usual haircare routine, however the Unwash system has left me with much softer, shinier hair, but in a 'day 2 of clean hair' way. Basically, it doesn't look sleek and shiny or feel weighed down, but it does have a healthy glow to it that I didn't have before. I also have really noticed how much quicker drying my hair is, which is a huge benefit in my eyes. Overall, although I initially felt out of my comfort zone by switching my routine, it's given my hair a whole new lease of life, and I'm loving the results.

Have you tried any products from Unwash
