Makeup | The Concealer Edit

Concealers. A real makeup bag essential and a 'holy grail' product. Whether is spots, discolouration or darkness, concealer has it covered, so to speak. I've dabbled in a lot of different concealers over the years (what can I say- I was a spotty teenager)- from high street to high end- and I think I can now officially say I have favourites. With that in mind, today's post is all about my top concealer picks, what they are best for, and why I love them.

Jewellery Box | My picks from the Christmas Collection

When it comes to festive jewellery, I'm not a novelty kinda gal. Yep, I may sound a bit 'bah- humbug', but wearing fake baubles in my ears is not my idea of fun, and I prefer to discreetly add the odd festive touch. Over the years I've dabbled in a LOT of costume jewellery. I used to love stacked up chunky bangles, OTT earrings and oversized rings, and although I am still partial to the odd statement necklace, my style, along with jewellery trends, have changed considerably over the past few years, and now it's all about delicate jewels.

Skinny Tan | Tan & Tone Oil Review

Unfortunately I wasn't blessed with olive skin. Or even slightly olive skin. My Irish roots mean I am paper white pale, and getting a real tan is practically impossible. It used to bother me, however the older I've got & the more I've learnt about skin safety (not to mention the anti aging affect the sun has on the skin) I definitely prefer to fake it.

Beauty | November Favourites

It's 1st December which means one thing. Well, aside from the fact that the festive season has officially started and it's acceptable to now play Christmas songs on repeat, It's also monthly favourites time! I've been using all of the products I'm talking about today throughout November, and love all of them so much that I had to share them with you all. Included this month are some new makeup bag additions, an AMAZING dry shampoo, and also some skincare thrown in for good measure. As always, I'd love to hear what are your favourite products at the moment, and whether you have tried and loved/ hated any of the ones I'm featuring today.

The NEW Lip Care Range from LYPSYL

Lypsyl* is a name that I've been familiar with for as long as I can remember. Yep, in those days before my friends and I were allowed to wear makeup, we would also carry a lipbalm around everywhere with us and take great delight in applying it whilst pretending it was a lipstick. I remember the original Lypsyl balm so clearly, in it's bright blue tube with white writing, and would get so excited whenever I got a new one.

Fast forward 20 years- Lypsyl have re branded, and have just launched an exciting range for AW16, which includes six new flavours alongside, of course, the original.

Makeup | High Street Haul Featuring NYX Cosmetics, SEVENTEEN, Primark Beauty & Freedom Makeup

It's been a while since I added some new additions to my makeup bag. Although I'm constantly on the hunt for new 'hero' products that will make me look like a supermodel, I have a tendency to always revert back to my favourites. That being said, I'm also very fickle when it comes to cosmetics, and if I have an ugly day or see bad picture of myself whilst wearing one of said hero products, it'll go to the bottom of my makeup bag, and I'll be onto the next. I'm going through one of those phases at the moment and decided my makeup bag needed some newness and love, so headed to my nearest high street to have a spend up. I'm always very open about the fact that I love high end products, but likewise have a lot of time for budget beauty as well. There are so many amazing brands out there now, and gone are the days when you had to spend a small fortune to look good. For just over £40, I got 8 new products, including 3 palettes, a makeup brush, and an amazing matte lip product.

Haircare | Sexy Hair 'Full Bloom' & 'Soya Want It All' Review

If you're a regular to My So Kohl'd Life, you'll know how I have a constant love/hair (mostly hate) relationship with my hair. After years of dabbling in various colours and styles, I've finally got the colour and cut nailed, but when it comes to styling it, well, let's just say I need all the help I can get. I'm the girl who struggles to put her hair in a ponytail half the time (HOW do people get that amazing messy finish without it looking, well, messy?) and am always complaining about how thin and lank my hair is. Needless to say, I am forever searching for products that will add lots of volume, and general oompf to my hair, whilst protecting it from heat damage and the elements. Step forward Sexy hair*. The name had me hooked before I'd even tried the product, after all, who doesn't want their hair to look sexy?? Today's post is a review of two of their best selling products, one which promises to offer 'big sexy hair,' and the other 'healthy sexy hair.'

What more could a gal want?

Teeth Whitening | BlanX & BlanX White Shock Toothpaste Review

White teeth are something we all aspire to have. I personally always notice people's teeth when I first meet them, and because of that I've always been very over critical of my own. I had braces when I was younger to fix my wonky smile, and despite years of orthodontic work (I ended up having them twice in the end) I've never been completely happy and have always felt that they could be whiter. I've tried various whitening toothpastes and treatments over the years, but haven't ever really found one that gives me the long lasting results I desire, so am forever trying out different brands and products, in the hope of achieving my desired white smile.

Today I am talking about BlanX*, who offer some of the most popular, and affordable whitening toothpastes on the market. Their range starts at just £5.00, and they also offer products under their BlanX White Shock sub brand including LED light products and an innovative whitening formula. I've reviewed 2 of their best selling toothpastes- one is from the BlanX main range, and the other from the Blanx White Shock range.

Fragrance Direct Pick | Stella McCartney Pop EDP

A girl can never have enough fragrances, right? Well that’s what I said to myself when I added this gorgeous Eau De Parfum by Stella McCartney to my already very large collection. The lovely people at Fragrance Direct let me choose a fragrance of my choice, and having been a big fan of Stella’s perfumes in the past (‘Stella’ being one of my all-time favourites) I knew I had to try her newest fragrance, Pop, which launched just a few months ago.

All of these products have been firm favourites of mine throughout October, plus there are some amazing bargains and dupes included! As always, I would love to hear if you have bought any of these products, and also what you can't live without at the moment.

Skincare | Anatomicals Review

If you know me and my blog, you will know that I'm a little bit obsessed with skincare and am forever mixing up my routine, and trying new brands and products. I like to do this for a couple of reasons, the first being that there are just so many amazing brands out there that it seems a shame to stick to the same products all the time, and secondly because the skin can become too used to products, and you often see a decline is results if you use them for too long.

Today's post features Anatomicals, who have have the tag line 'we only want you for your body.' This tongue in cheek statement definitely sums them up- quirky, colourful and fun, the brand claims to ‘manufacture the world’s funkiest toiletries,’ and say they have ‘single handedly banned boring beauty regimes across the nation.’ I’ve tried and tested 3 of their bestselling skincare products to see if they live up to those very bold statements…

Skincare | BRYT Makeup Remover & Foaming Cleanser Review

For the past few weeks, I've added some new additions to my daily skincare routine, in the form of this eye and makeup remover and foaming facial cleanser by BRYT Skincare. I didn't know much about the brand before I'd tried the products, however I've since learnt that they pride themselves and their products on being not only cruelty free, but also all ingredients used are ethically sourced and in most cases, organic. In addition to this, all packaging is fully recyclable and the card used for the ultra colourful and eyecatching boxes is completely biodegradable. I love trying new products, and it's always a lovely feeling to know that what you are using will not only be kind to your skin, but also to the planet. Neither of these products, nor anything else from the range, contains sulphates, parabens or GM ingredients and are completely vegan.

Haircare | The new way to wash hair with 'Unwash'

I'm a simple kinda gal when it comes to my hair. I wash it every other day using any old shampoo and conditioner (usually whatever is on offer in Boots), then rough dry it, run the straighteners over the ends, and I'm good to go. I've never been particularly great at styling it either and tend to stick to a just couple of 'dos. Yep, I suppose you could say I'm quite lazy when it comes to my haircare habits, but I'm then the first to complain that my hair is lank and lifeless, or that it doesn't look like the amazing manes I see in magazines and on social media.

In a bid to mix it up a bit, step out my comfort zone and try something different, I've been using a new haircare system by American company Unwash. It challenges the traditional shampoo, condition, repeat routine that we have become so used to, by replacing it with one main product that acts as both a shampoo and conditioner, and then additional products to use alongside it when your hair needs a bit of extra love. It also claims to be kinder to hair than regular shampoo and conditioners as it doesn't contain any parabens, or strip the hair of its natural oils.

Makeup | Pippa for Blank Canvas Palette Review

There's a new palette in my life, and I definitely love it a little bit. In fact, I'd go as far as saying I have been OBSESSED with it since I got it a few weeks ago- it's that good. The Pippa Palette was created by Blank Canvas Cosmetics, alongside Pippa O'Connor, one of Ireland's most successful fashion and beauty bloggers, and has been on my makeup wish list since it launched last year. The 9 shade eyeshadow and face palette reflects Pippa's love for natural, fresh, makeup, and each shade is named after someone special in Pippa's life which I think is such a lovely touch.

Makeup & Skincare | September Favourites

I say it every month but...how is it October already? It feels like this year has flown by, and each month seems to go by even quicker. Autumn for me means a lot more nights in (who wants to socialise when it's dark and cold outside anyway?) and in turn this means more pampering. There really is nothing better than lighting some candles, running a bath and trying out some new beauty products- in fact I think I probably spend more on products during the winter months. My favourites from September are a combination of skincare and makeup, most of which are new to me, and I adore them all so much that I wanted to share my thoughts with you all.

Skincare | Mirai Face Brush & Cleanser Review

For the past month I've had a new skincare gadget in my life- the mirai face cleansing brush from The True Companyand it's fast becoming a firm favourite of mine. If you are a regular visitor to My So Kohl'd Life, you'll know how much I love trying new skincare, particularly if it claims to be anti aging and prevent wrinkles, as this does, so I was really excited to try it and see if it would make me look 19 again!

Fragrance | Sarah Jessica Parker 'Lovely' Eau De Parfum Review

I recently vowed to not add any more fragrances to my collection unless it was my Birthday, Christmas, or I'd been to duty free (you're allowed to treat yourself if you're going on holiday, right?) but fast forward a few weeks and I'm ashamed to say my vow has officially been broken. Having heard great things about 'Lovely' by Sarah Jessica Parker, I had a spritz of it whilst I was in my local Boots store, and fell in love with it's sweet, dusky hues, so couldn't resist handing my card over to the cashier, and leaving the store with my brand new fragrance. The 50ml bottle retails for £35, however it was on special offer and I paid £19.99- another reason why I couldn't resist. Even though this deal has ended, Groupon is currently offering the same size bottle for just £12.98 which is such amazing value, especially for an Eau de Parfum. ETP's have a higher concentration of fragrance oils than Eau de Toilette sprays, which means that they last longer, and are therefore slightly more expensive.

Tracie Giles Signature Hair by Hair Brows | Bespoke Permanent Makeup Review

My eyebrows have officially been the bane of my life for so many years now. Growing up in the early 2000's, the trend was super skinny, 'barely- there' brows, so of course I followed the crowd and plucked mine to within an inch of their lives, until I was left with the thinnest arch of hair possible. Over the years I've tried my hardest to put the tweezers down in an attempt to grow them out, however even with all the eyebrow serums I've used which claim to stimulate the hair growth, they are still not the full, 'on fleek' brows I so badly want. Back when I was a teenager no one used any makeup on their eyebrows- at most you would put a little bit of vaseline on them to keep them in place- and owning an eyebrow pencil was unheard of. Crazy to think that now, the majority of my makeup bag is full of brow products. I have a huge collection of brow powders, pomades, gels, and everything in between, in an attempt to plump out my brows, however I find it a daily struggle (first world problems, I know) and as a result have been considering getting them tattooed for a few years now.

Beauty | My So Kohl'd Life is August's GlossyBox Glambassdor Winner

Last month I posted a review of August's GLOSSYBOX (if you missed it you can read it here) and a couple of weeks later I got a lovely email from the GLOSSYBOX ladies saying I had been chosen as that month's Glambassador winner! August marked the beauty subscription boxes fifth anniversary, so I was extremely honoured to be chosen as their winner.

GLOSSYBOX is the original beauty box, and over the past 5 years has treated it's subscribers to a monthly delivery of amazing makeup, beauty and haircare samples, straight to their doorstep. With products from well known brands to newer ones, and some even being full sized, each box is brilliant value at just £10 per month, plus postage costs.

Skincare | Konjac Sponge Review

First things first, I'm sure you're asking 'what is a Konjac sponge?' I definitely was when I first heard about this product, however after doing some research, I learnt that these face and body sponges are made from blended vegetable fibres and french clay, and are PH neutral for perfectly balanced skin. They are also a staple feature in Korean beauty regimes, where the sponges originate from, so I was eager to try one and give my thoughts.

Makeup | August Favourites

Is anyone else having one of those 'where has the year gone' moments? I can't quite believe that it's September, and summer is just a distant memory. I must admit, however, that Autumn is one of my favourite seasons- I love cosy knits, leaves falling off the trees and winter clothes (you can't beat buying new coats and boots, right?) Plus it's an excuse to relax the diet and indulge in some real comfort food! With that in mind, today's products are all things that I've not only been using non stop throughout August, but I'm certain will be the perfect pamper products and makeup bag essentials for the next few months, as the weather gets colder.

Skincare | Skin Chemists Advanced Snail Daily Moisturiser & Serum Review

Another day, another skincare post! I've said it before- now I'm in my thirties, skincare is so much more important in my everyday routine, and sometimes even more important to me than makeup. I've always tried my hardest to look after my skin, however the years have definitely taken their toll and it can often look dull, tired, and I can certainly see a difference between what it looked like in my early twenties to now (thanks timehop for reminding me how youthful I used to look!) Plus I always think that no amount of makeup can mimic the look of gorgeous skin glowing through your foundation, and you need a good base to achieve this. I'm certainly trying my hardest to reverse the damage that has been done to my skin from the sun, leaving my makeup on overnight and a bad diet, and alongside lifestyle changes, I need to use amazing products that will look after my skin, whilst giving amazing results.

Makeup | SEVENTEEN Mega Matte Lipstick Review

Being the huge matte lipstick fan I am, I was so happy to receive some of the 'Mega Matte' lipsticks from SEVENTEEN, especially as they only launched at the beginning of the month, and I have to say, I am already a little bit in love with them. I recently wrote about the SEVENTEEN Bloggers Network event that I attended, and it was at this event that I first heard all of the hype about these lipsticks and how amazing they were. Never one to just take someone's word for it, I knew I had to try them and see how they compared to some of my other favourite matte finish lip products (my favourites being Mac matte lipsticks and NYX matte lip creams) and was lucky enough to get my hands on six of the twelve shades available in the range.

Skincare | St Tropez Luxe Facial Oil Review

For a pale skinned girl like me, fake tanning is important. Now I'm not talking about the really fake look (no one likes to be orange, right?) I'm talking about a healthy glow to take the starkness off how white I really am. Over the years, I've dabbled with many brands- high street to high end and everything in between- and when it comes to my body, I've definitely found what products work best for me, but I must admit my face often feels a little neglected, and ends up a few shades paler than the rest of me. I used to think that facial tanners were a bit of a gimmick- a ploy from the brands to get us to spend double the money on two products that will effectively do the same thing, and used to just pile on foundation that was a few shades darker than my natural skin to match my face to my body, or just use the same product I'd used on my body, on my face. Now I'm older, and skincare has become such and important part of my routine (not to mention the fact that these days I'm trying to wear less makeup) the 'slap on the dark foundation' trick will no longer cut it, nor will using my body tan on my face. I want a product that's going to be kinder to the skin on my face and not block my pores, and one that will also give me a slightly more natural glow than I want on my body.

Makeup | SEVENTEEN Blogger Network Event

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to the first ever SEVENTEEN blogger network event in London, so today I thought I would share with you a little round up of the evening. The Boot's makeup brand has been around since the 60's, and over the years has transformed from a brand that was solely aimed at teenagers, to a slick, on trend one that rivals it's competitors on the market. Since it's most recent re launch and makeover, SEVENTEEN now offers sophisticated packaging, amazing dupes and on trend products (they got straight on the contouring bandwagon, FYI) and all at super affordable prices. So of course I jumped at the chance to attend, and to learn a bit more about their products.

Beauty | August GlossyBox Review

This month marks the five year anniversary of GLOSSYBOX, the original beauty subscription box, so I knew that what was going to land on my doorstep in the form of August's edition would be extra special. The first surprise was that the usual pink and black box has been given a little makeover by the wonderful British brand Rae Feather, and is channeling preppy vibes with it's pink and grey combo and 'GB' logo. As always, August's box contains a handful of lovely treats, including two full size products, and in total is worth over £50- not bad for a £10 monthly subscription. Plus the great thing about GLOSSYBOX is that you can sign up for 3 month, 6 month, and yearly subscriptions, and the longer you sign up for, the cheaper your box becomes.

Fragrance | Quite possibly the best perfume dupes...ever

Us ladies all love a good fragrance, and like me, I'm sure most of your have at least one everyday 'signature scent' as well as many more heavier fragrances that you class as 'nighttime' or 'going out' scents. I am guilty of owning quite a few, but always tend to revert back to 2 or 3 of my ultimate favourites. Perfume is something I always put on Christmas and birthday lists- unless I've purchased it in duty free as a 'pre holiday' treat, I always feel quite guilty about buying it for myself as it's so expensive, so I have been known to look for a dupe- particularly for my everyday perfume which tends to run out so quickly.

Events | Spectrum Collections AW16 Bombshell Preview

Last week I was lucky enough to attend Spectrum Collection's AW16 preview event, and be among the first to see their amazing Bombshell brush collection in all it's glory. The event was held in near Soho in central London, and it was a great opportunity to meet the Spectrum girls and lots of other lovely bloggers, as well as seeing the Bombshell brushes ahead of their launch at the end of September.

Spectrum was started by sisters Sophie and Hannah a couple of years ago, and before long, the brands' beautiful brushes with their pastel handles and ombre bristles were all over social media. Yep, these brushes are probably the most Instagrammable on the market, plus add to the fact that they are seriously affordable (brushes start at just £3.99) and are cruelty free and 100% vegan, well, you can see why Spectrum are the makeup brush brand of the moment.

Beauty | July Glossybox Review

I must admit I do love a beauty subscription box. There's something lovely about coming home to a little box of treats, and I always think it's a great way to try out brands and products that you wouldn't usually buy, without spending a fortune. This month I thought I would give GLOSSYBOX a go. Despite being around for over 5 years, and being the UK's number one beauty subscription box, I'm ashamed to say that I have subscribed to it before, so I thought it was about time. Plus, I'd heard that July's box contained mostly full sized products so I couldn't resist signing up.

With GLOSSYBOX, you can sign up a rolling monthly plan for £10 or month, or choose 3, 6 or 12 months subscriptions to get your boxes even cheaper- a 3 month box works out at only £9.50 a month, 6 month is £9 a month and 12 month is just £8.50 a month. All of these prices exclude P&P, but with this month's box worth over £35, you definitely get over and above your money's worth. Here's what was inside July's box.

Makeup | 5 of the best mascaras

Mascara has always been a favourite product of mine, in fact, like most young girls, it was the first item of makeup I ever bought and wore. Yep, rewind 17 years and there I was in Boots handing over a couple of pounds for a Collection 2000 one that left my lashes sticking together in clumps. Thankfully, my taste in mascaras has changed since then, and I now have an unhealthy obsession with anything that will transform my fine, straight lashes into gorgeous fluttery ones.

What's in my makeup bag | Current Favourites & New additions

I've not posted about 'what's in my makeup bag' for a while now, and being someone who is always adding new additions to it, I thought I would share some of my current favourites with you all. I'll admit it, I do always have my 'can't live without' products, such as Double Wear foundation by Estee Lauder, but I am always looking for new products that will add a different dimension to my look, or that speed up my getting ready process. Plus, if you are anything like me, you own far too many products to use on an everyday basis- I am forever finding 'old favourites' that I have stopped using for one reason or another, then fallen back in love with them. Here's whats new in my makeup bag this month...

I was introduced to Regenerate products at a recent blogger event I attended, and after a few weeks of using their advanced toothpaste and boosting serum, I'm hooked. I'll admit it, I'm the first to claim that I think a white smile equals a healthy smile, and over the past few years have whitened my teeth to excess. Instagram Round Up | Miami

Last week I did a little Instagram round up of my trip to Coachella and Los Angeles (you can read it here) and today I will be talking about my trip to Miami. I flew there from LA, which took around 5 hours, and was extra excited for this stop as it was the only place I visited that I had never been to before. I stayed in the very beautiful Fountainebleau hotel on South Beach, and spent 3 days there soaking up the sun, as well as trying to see as much of Miami as possible.

NYC Sephora Haul

The last stop on my recent USA trip was New York, and being a typical beauty blogger, I couldn't wait to get to Sephora and add to my makeup collection. Despite not needing any new makeup whatsoever, I picked up a few key pieces, some that I have been wanting to try for a while, and others that I discovered whilst in store.

Instagram Round Up | Coachella & Los Angeles

If you're already following My So Kohl'd Life on Instagram, you will know that last month I went on the most amazing holiday to Los Angeles, Miami and New York with 3 girlfriends, and whilst there tried to snap as much as possible. The main reason for the trip was to go to Coachella music festival (bucket list, ticket) and today's post is a little Instagram round up of the first leg of my trip. Keep reading to see what I got up to in Los Angeles and at Coachella.

High Street vs High End | In Shower Self Tanner Review

Last summer, St Tropez launched an innovative new product that was set to change our tanning regime forever. Their 'In Shower Gradual Tanner' was the first of it's kind on the market, promising to give a gradual bronzed glow in just 3 minutes, without even stepping out of the shower. Of course I snapped up the product (read my initial review here) and despite a few reservations at first, I did grow to love it. Fast forward a year, and high street favourite Rimmel have launched their own in shower tanner, and this one claims to work in just 1 minute. So, does it work? And which is better, the high street or the high end...?
