Benefit Party Poppers Advent Calendar Review | Days 1-6

Gone are the days when advent calendars are all about chocolate, for us girls it's now all about the beauty advent calendar. With brands from Makeup Revolution through to Jo Malone jumping on the bandwagon and having missed out last year, this year I was determined to get my hands on one. I opted for the Benefit Party Poppers calendar as had heard such great things about the 2014 calendar, and had to stop myself from opening it early, I was that excited. There are a few obvious differences to last years calendar- one of which is the fact that this year there are a mere 12 windows to open (boo!) compared to last year's 24, but on the upside, this year's calendar retailed for £34, which is much more affordable than the £60 charged for the 2014 one. Now I know you are technically getting half the products, but the cheaper price point does make it so much more obtainable, I certainly didn't feel too guilty treating myself to it!

As there are only 12 doors to open, I have been opening one every other day, so I could start on 1st December alongside everyone else. See what I got on days 1-6 below and I will show you what was inside doors 7-12 once I've opened them.

Day 1- Ooh La Lift
Dubbed as a 'mini eyelift,' this brightening under eye balm has light reflecting particles to give you an instant boost. It can be used over makeup, however I find the consistency quite thin and it lifts my under eye concealer slightly. Instead of using under the eyes, I dab a couple of dots towards the inner corners of my eyes to add illumination and make them appear wider.

I was surprised and pleased to find this in my calendar- I have never tried any of Benefit's skincare before as I've always wondered if it was more of an 'add on product' and whether it actually compared to the other brands in the same price bracket. The cream really sinks into the skin with ease, and provides a lovely base for makeup. I'll be packing this pot in my toiletries bag next time I go away as it's the perfect size.

Day 3- High Beam
With strobing being everywhere at the moment, I was over the moon to find high beam in my calendar. Although I definitely don't need another highlighter, I used to always use High Beam and had forgotten just how much I love it. It is the perfect iced pink shade, and has zero glitter in it which is a real bonus for me as I hate the 'Barbie' look.
This gorgeous gloss has a sugary sweet scent and taste, and is a shimmering nude/ pink shade. It's a great size as it won't take up too much space in your handbag, plus it's not over sticky which is something I cannot stand in a lipgloss. Perfect for a subtle daytime glow, or over lipstick for a more impactful look.

Crazily enough, I had never tried this much hyped mascara before it I opened door number 5 in my calendar so I couldn't wait to give it a go. The brush has flexible plastic bristles which really helps to separate and give the lashes definition, plus you can easily build up the product without ended up with a 'clumpy' finish. If I'm honest it's not the best mascara I have ever used so I probably wouldn't pay the full price of £19.50, but this little sample will be perfect for touch ups throughout the day so has found it's way into my makeup bag.

Day 6- Lollitint
This candy colour stain gives a pop of colour to lips and cheeks. I'm not a huge fan of liquid based blushers, and this is quite purple in colour which isn't the best on my complexion. Because this is water based, it doesn't really co operate well with my silicone based foundation so I have been wearing this only on my lips, not my cheeks. I quite like it as a base underneath gloss as it gives my natural lip colour a little boost.

So that's what was behind doors 1-6 of my Party Poppers advent calendar, make sure you keep an eye out for doors 7-12. I'd love to hear what calendar you went for this year, has it lived up to your expectations so far?
