ONE LINE A DAY | A FIVE YEAR MEMORY BOOK

I'd not heard of these books before I unwrapped one on Christmas morning, but it's safe to say that it is my favourite present I received this year. Growing up I loved to keep a diary, in fact, I think that's where my love of writing began, and I would keep detailed accounts of what I had done each day. The older I got, however, I realised that finding the time to jot down my thoughts, feelings and general notes about the day became difficult, and the whole process a slight chore.

WHAT I GOT FOR CHRISTMAS 2015 | BEAUTY

So my favourite time of year, Christmas, is over. It feels like the older I get, the quicker it seems to pass, and I'll admit it, I have a slight case of the post Christmas blues. That being said, and trying to hold onto the festive feeling, I thought I would review my favourite beauty gifts that I was lucky enough to receive this year. Although I didn't write a Christmas list, my friends and family know me well and being a makeup artist, beauty blogger and all round product junky, a lot of my presents had a beauty theme. I've chosen my 5 favourite, a mix of products I've tried before and products that are new to me, for today's review.

Benefit Party Poppers Advent Calendar Review | Days 7-12

Happy Christmas Eve everyone! Today I opened the last door of my Benefit Party Poppers advent calendar, and as much as I have loved my first ever beauty calendar, I will not miss the musical tune that it plays- yep, it's safe to say I am pretty much fed up of Benefit's version of the 12 days of Christmas! If you haven't already read it, you can catch up with what was behind doors 1-6 here, and read on to see what was behind the last 6 doors...

Coconut Lane Buys & Review

Always on the hunt for an up and coming new brand, I was delighted to stumble across Coconut Lane on Instagram, and was hooked as soon as I visited their website. Benefit Party Poppers Advent Calendar Review | Days 1-6

Gone are the days when advent calendars are all about chocolate, for us girls it's now all about the beauty advent calendar. With brands from Makeup Revolution through to Jo Malone jumping on the bandwagon and having missed out last year, this year I was determined to get my hands on one. I opted for the Benefit Party Poppers calendar as had heard such great things about the 2014 calendar, and had to stop myself from opening it early, I was that excited. There are a few obvious differences to last years calendar- one of which is the fact that this year there are a mere 12 windows to open (boo!) compared to last year's 24, but on the upside, this year's calendar retailed for £34, which is much more affordable than the £60 charged for the 2014 one. Now I know you are technically getting half the products, but the cheaper price point does make it so much more obtainable, I certainly didn't feel too guilty treating myself to it!

As there are only 12 doors to open, I have been opening one every other day, so I could start on 1st December alongside everyone else. See what I got on days 1-6 below and I will show you what was inside doors 7-12 once I've opened them.

LOVE ME BEAUTY REVIEW

With so many amazing beauty boxes around, how is a girl supposed to chose which one to go for? They are all packed full of lovely beauty, makeup and skincare goodies, and most retail for around £10 a month (excluding P&P) for a rolling subscription, so are very affordable. In the end I couldn't narrow it down to just one, so chose Birchbox (read my review of the November box here) and I also signed up for Love Me Beauty. The really appealing thing about LMB is that you can pick your own samples each month- it uses a credit system and you get a minimum of 60 credits (each product is between 10-20 credits) which you can spend however you like. Plus you can add on extra credits whenever you want at an additional cost. In a nutshell you are getting at least £45 of hand picked FULL SIZED products per month, all for £10.

Personalise your Christmas Gifts with Zazzle

December is here, and with the big day only a matter of weeks away, the Christmas shopping rush is officially on. Lugging heavy bags around the shops is my idea of a nightmare- I much prefer sitting in the comfort of my home with a cup of tea and my laptop. Needless to say online shopping is my best friend when it comes to the festive season. Always on the lookout for a Unique gift, I discovered the website Zazzle, which offers a whole host of gifts that can be personalised. When the lovely people there said I could choose some gifts to review I was spoilt for choice. The site offers thousands of products, with everything from t shirts, to flip flops, phone cases and makeup bags and the great thing is that you can either buy exactly as they are, or you can literally start with a blank canvas and customise it by changing the font, colour, and uploading images to the website. The possibilities are endless and you can create bespoke gifts for your loved ones that you can guarantee no one else will get them!

NOVEMBER BIRCHBOX | REVIEW

After months of deliberating which beauty box to subscribe to, I opted for the '#1 UK beauty box' Birchbox. At only £12.95 with postage and packaging for a rolling monthly subscription (3 and 6 month options are also available,) it promises to deliver at least 5 makeup, skincare, haircare and/ or fragrance samples to your door every month from a mix of high street, high end and cult brands. All that and it will include at least 1 full sized product- sounds too good to be true, right? I HAD to sign up to see what all the fuss was about, and I got in at the very last minute for the November box which is a collaboration with Skinnydip London. Here is what arrived...

November Favourites | Makeup & Beauty

I can't quite believe that it's the end of November already- where has the year gone?! With the festive season so close you can almost touch it, I thought I would do a round up of the products I am loving this month to give you all some inspiration for new additions to your festive makeup bag. With the exception of one Mac powder, everything is from the high street so certainly won't break the bank, and would also be perfect Christmas stocking additions.

H&M BEAUTY PICKS | REVIEW & SWATCHES

Since it landed in stores last month, I have been desperate to get my hands on the newly revamped H&M beauty range. The brand that previously offered 'OK' makeup that didn't particularly rival the rest of the high street, has now launched an all singing, all dancing, 700 piece range which has everything from foundations right through to makeup brushes and brow kits. Yep, H&M have upped their game in a big way! Alongside the 'core' makeup products, H&M is planning to do seasonal drops of limited edition palettes which I'm sure will be snapped up in an instant. With prices starting at £1.90, I had to see what all the fuss was about.

Top 5 | Mac Powder Blushers | Review & Swatches

Today's post is all about my favourite makeup item, blusher. I never feel that my makeup is completely ‘done’ until my cheeks are perfectly pink, and I always think that the face looks so much more flat without a sweep of pink on the apples of the cheeks- yep, it can turn the face from flat and dull to healthy and glowing with a quick sweep of a brush.  Mac are my favourite brand as I love the extensive range of colours and finishes they offer and they are so highly pigmented that a small bit goes a long way. At around £20 a pop, these are quite pricey so I would recommend the I heart makeup blushing hearts and the little round pots by Bourjois as a cheaper alternative. I've dedicated today's post to my top 5 Mac blushers which I rotate depending on my mood, how pale or tanned I am and what makeup look I am going for.

Lipstick of the month | Kiko Milano | Review & Swatches

When it comes to my makeup, after foundation (I cannot go out without my second skin,) lipstick is by far my favourite item. My lips are naturally quite red, but without a slip of lipstick they look more 'meh' than 'wow.' Even when going for a natural everyday look, I feel that everyone looks just a little bit better with a bit of colour on their lips. Now I have always been a big fan of Mac lipsticks, with their matte finishes being my absolute fave, but then I discovered Kiko Milano. Offering all finishes from sheer and metallic, through to gloss, they've covered all bases, and each lipstick case is a work of art in itself!

Best Cream Highlighters for Strobing

I previously posted about my absolute favourite powder products for highlighting (read all about Mac Pigment pots here) and now it's the turn of the best cream highlighting products. Creams often look more natural than powders as they blend into the face, whereas powders tend to just sit on the top. Saying that, I love both, and can't wait to share with you which 5 cream based highlighters I am loving right now! Read on to see which ones made the cut...

The Mac Product You Didn't Know You Needed...Until Now...

If you know me and my blog well you will know I am a sucker for a multi-use product. Basically I like getting my money’s worth, so love a product that can be used for more than one thing, especially when it comes to more premium brands. Step forward Mac pigment. These little pots of highly concentrated colour are so versatile- they can be used on their own as an eyeshadow and the neutral colours in the range can be used to add a slight shimmer or highlight to the face and body, and can also be mixed in with foundation and body lotion for a more dramatic strobing look.

Handbag Essentials #2 | The Blotterazzi by Beauty Blender

In my second installment of the Handbag Essentials series, I'm talking about the handy little product that is The Blotterrazi. It only came into my life last month- I stumbled across it during a little spree in Sephora whilst I was on holiday and I can safely say it has become a handbag essential. Drawn in by the fact that it is made by THE beauty blender people (and I quite liked the catchy name) I couldn’t resist, and promptly took it to the till and handed over $20 (approximately £14.) Dubbed as an alternative to old fashioned blotting papers, at first I didn’t really get it- I mean how can a sponge help keep me shine free? The science behind it is that the sponge absorbs any excess oil on the skin, banishing shine, whilst keeping makeup intact.

FREEDOM MAKEUP | WORTH THE HYPE? | REVIEW & SWATCHES

When I heard that the people behind my favourite drugstore makeup brand Makeup Revolution were bringing out a sister 'pro' range I was beyond excited. How they could top the quality and prices of MUR I wasn't quite sure, but after having a look on their website and spotting dupes of Mac, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Too Faced, I knew I had to get my hands on the range that claims to 'challenge and inspire you and the makeup world.' Available online and now in Superdrug stores nationwide, Freedom offers an extensive range of products with everything from lipsticks and eyeshadows, through to priming water and fixing spray. Yep, it's safe to say that Freedom Makeup is ready to give all other affordable makeup brands a run for their money!

My Skincare Essentials

My skincare routine has been an important ritual to me since my early teens. Back then I tried just about every product out there in a hopeless bid to get rid of my acne, and would religiously cleanse, tone and moisture in the hope that I would one day wake up with flawless skin. Needless to say it never happened- my skin finally cleared up when I was around the age of 18, and only with the help of the pill. Luckily, my routine had stuck by this time, and I have carried on with it ever since (apart from the odd night when I am too tired/ drunk/ can't be bothered to take my makeup off- we have all been there!) Today's post is all about the skincare products I love and simply cannot live without!

Handbag Essentials #1 | Makeup Revolution Protection Pallette | Review & Swatches

In the first installment of my 'handbag essentials' series, I am looking at a multi use product that is not only amazing, but will save you so much space in your handbag. If you are familiar with my blog posts you will know that Makeup Revolution is one of my favourite high street brands as the quality is great and it is so affordable- today the spotlight it on the brand's nifty little protection palette. I ordered this online as I couldn't find it in my local store, and it is currently in their sale for only £4!!! I imagine this means it won't be around for much longer so make sure you snap it up now ladies! Available in 4 shades (from light through to medium/ dark), it contains everything you could possibly want to touch up your skin throughout the day or night.

KIKO MILANO | REBEL ROMANTIC COLLECTION | REVIEW & SWATCHES

First up, a little confession. Until a few weeks ago, I hadn’t heard of the Italian professional brand Kiko Cosmetics. How this amazing brand passed me by I do not know, as they have been in the UK for a while now and have stores up and down the country, including an amazing  flagship store on Regent Street, complete with an LED ceiling. Aware that I have some catching up to do, I decided to have a little splurge and try some of their products from their ‘Rebel Romantic’ collection. I know you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but I instantly fell in love with the gorgeous Charlotte Tilbury-esk rose gold packaging, and knew that even if I didn’t love the products, they would make for an amazing Instagram post!!

AUTUMN/ WINTER HAIR INSPO

Over the past year I've gone from brunette, to blonde, to bronde and back again, and looking for my next perfect style, I thought I would put together a little autumn/ winter hair inspo post. I must admit that I've never been the most adventurous person when it comes to my hair- in the past when I've found a style that suited me I tended to stick to it, however as I get older I am getting slightly more experimental. Here are the hair colours and styles I am currently lusting over...

OMBRE

Ombre hair first catapulted into our lives back in 2007, however in the past couple of years it has gained popularity and become more bold. Gone are the days when you would get highlights all the way to your roots, instead the 'grown out' look is in, and everyone who is anyone is doing it! Although the blonde and brown combo has been everywhere this summer, it looks as though it is here to stay for autumn. I adore these soft caramel hues and lose waves which look gorgeous on both long and short hair.

MAC HAUL | REVIEW & SWATCHES

Ahead of my holiday to Vegas a couple of weeks ago, I decided to treat myself and have a little Mac splurge. It always seems that all my makeup runs out at the same time, and I find myself having to replace practically everything, and spend a fortune! Although I have a huge love for affordable beauty brands, I have also been a loyal Mac customer since I trained as a makeup artist 8 years ago. I adore their lipsticks, and their pressed powder is the only one I use. I headed to Mac in Westfield and managed to restrain myself enough to come out with just a few new bits...

MAKEUP REVOLUTION I HEART MAKEUP | TRIPLE BAKED HIGHLIGHTER | REVIEW AND SWATCHES

Hello lovelies!

Today I'm back to the makeup posts, and reviewing this amazing triple baked highlighter from 'I heart makeup' which is a sub brand of Makeup Revolution. My favourite powder highlighter (Lighscapade by Mac) is about to run out so I was delighted when I stumbled across this one. I've been using Lightscapade for about 3 years now, and am probably most loyal to it because there weren't that many others about when I started using it. Fast forward 3 years and strobing is everywhere, which means that powder highlighters have been catapulted into our lives. Yep, now practically every brand from budget through to high end offers a compact filled with glowing loveliness!

Now I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and all that, but have you seen the packaging?? How cute is the little heart shaped box? One of the things I love about Makeup Revolution is that the majority of their products come in outer boxes which makes them feel so much more premium- I can't think of any other high street brands that do this. Also, strangely enough there is something about the box being cardboard as opposed to plastic that makes it seem more desireable.

DINNER AT STK LONDON

Hello!

So today's post is a lifestyle one, which is a bit different to my usual beauty ramblings. As it's a bit different, I'd love to hear your feedback- would you like to see more of this type of thing on My So Kohl'd Life or should I stick to the beauty posts?

So back to my post...There are so many amazing restaurants in an around London, and my friends and I like to try and visit somewhere new every couple of months. Last Friday it was the turn of the amazing STK, with is situated in the ME hotel on the Strand. I've been desperate to go for a while and steak has to be my all time favourite dinner, so to say I was excited is an understatement! I practically starved myself all day on Friday to make room for my dinner, I definitely did not want to be leaving ANY food on my plate!

Our table was booked for 8pm (we were a little late, standard behaviour for us girls!) and upon arrival we were promptly shown to our table which was a very plush booth to the back of restaurant. The decor is lovely, very modern, with drop lights and delicate chains hanging from the ceiling and purple hued light bars surrounding the dining areas. The music was amazing- Friday night was 90’s night, apparently, as we were treated to songs by the likes of Seal and No Doubt. It was quite an unusual choice, I thought, but seemed to add a bit of an eclectic feel to the whole experience!

MUA LUXE- WHIPPED VELVET BLUSH | REVIEW & SWATCHES

I hadn't really ever payed attention to MUA cosmetics until recently when they launched their 'MUA Luxe' collection. The 'luxe' wording had me hooked straight away- after all it does mean expensive and high quality! I know that MUA are known for their affordable prices, so was sure that this collection would perhaps be slightly more expensive, but would in no way break the bank.

Being the blusher fanatic that I am (I won't leave the house unless my cheeks have rosy glow!) I was instantly drawn in by their gorgeous 'Whipped Velvet' blushers. I mean the name itself sells the product for it, right?? I usually go for a powder blush (Dainty by Mac being my all time fave) but I thought I would mix up my makeup routine a bit and give this a go.

COLLECTION | EYES UNCOVERED NUDE BRONZE PALETTE | REVIEW & SWATCHES

Since ‘Collection 2000’ re branded themselves to ‘Collection’ back in 2012, they have consistently surprised me with their variety and quality of product, as well as their super affordable prices. Before this, they seemed to be a brand that was loved by pre-teens (myself included, circa 1998) and wasn’t really acknowledged by anyone over the age of 15 as a ‘proper makeup brand.’
In recent years, Collection have done collaborations with the likes of Little Mix (yep, you can now get your very own ‘Perrie’ glitter eyeliner) as well as matching other high street brands in terms of product offering (who would have thought you could get a contour kit for under a fiver?) Add to this the fact that they have re branded themselves with slick new packaging, and this is now very much a ‘grown up brand.’

Cleaning Makeup Brushes | How and when?

Gone are the days that makeup brushes are solely used by the professionals. With so many great brands offering affordable brushes it is almost inexcusable to still be applying makeup with your fingertips. Now don’t get me wrong, our fingers are also a great makeup tool, but do we really need an excuse to add to our makeup bag ladies?? So now you've got the brushes, the question is what is the best way to clean them and how often should you do it?
For me, cleaning brushes can be a chore sometimes, but it is something I have got into a fairly good routine with over the years. My largest brush collection is the one in my professional kit, which I wash after every use, but I’ll admit I can be a bit lazy when it comes to washing my personal brushes. There are lots of brush cleaner sprays out there that are great for a quick fix, but to really eliminate bacteria and keep you brushes in tip top condition you can’t beat a good deep clean.

Rimmel Kate Moss Nude Collection Lipsticks | Review and Swatches

I have always been a huge fan of the Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks (they were my go to staples before I discovered Mac), so imagine my excitement when I heard they were launching a collection of 5 nude shades. Nude is traditionally quite a difficult colour to wear, especially if you are fair skinned like me, but Rimmel claim that ‘there is a nude shade for every girl'. With the 90’s fashion officially everywhere at the moment and the nude lip being oh so on trend, have Rimmel gone and done the impossible by offering a lipstick for every one of us?

July Outfit Round Up

Hello lovelies! A bit of a different post for me today. July has been a busy month so I thought I would do a little round up of some of my favourite outfits (just a little pre warning- all outfits bar one feature leopard print!!!)

WIRELESS FESTIVAL
At the beginning of the month a group of 8 of us girls went to Wireless festival. The weather was amazing, and I opted for a denim pinafore dress from Topshop. I teamed it with my Fearne Cotton for Very buckled ankle boots (similar pair here) and Topshop animal print bucket bag. Jewellery wise, I wore my staple gold chunky watch, and lots of delicate gold rings.

MAC PRO LONGWEAR WATERPROOF FOUNDATION | REVIEW AND SWATCHES

If I could only wear one item of makeup for the rest of my life (or had to pick only one thing to take to a desert island, etc, etc) it would be foundation. I have always been conscious of being pale and freckly, and I feel so much more confident when I have my second layer of skin on. My long standing favourite has to be Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, but it's glass bottle means you can never quite get the last bit out (is that not the most annoying thing ever?) I have tried quite a few Mac foundations (with Face and Body being my fave) but stumbled across Pro Longwear Waterproof last week and I had to give it a try. At £25.50 for 25ml, it is slightly cheaper than Double Wear and you do get less (Double Wear is £30 for 30ml), however the plastic tube means that you can get every last drop out.

The big three oh

I say this every year, but 2015 is passing by at a scarily fast speed- seriously how is it JULY already?! I'm not sure whether it's because I've been so busy or because I'm trying to tick everything off my 'before I turn 30' bucket list. Yep, in just 6 short months I will be leaving my twenties and celebrating my 30th birthday. It seems like only a couple of years ago that I was turning 21, with a long stretch of twenty something birthdays ahead of me. Somehow, the weeks have turned into months, the months into years and all of a sudden I am a proper grown up and freaking out loads a little bit! Now don't get me wrong, I know that 30 is not old by any stretch of the imagination, I think what is scaring me the most is that I thought I would be in a different stage of my life when the big 3-0 hit me.

TOPSHOP INNERSTELLAR EYESHADOW- REVIEW & SWATCHES

With their simplistic yet quirky packaging, amazing quality and affordable prices, I don't know anyone who isn't a fan of the Topshop makeup range. I popped into my local store at the weekend and couldn't resist adding the cute little eyeshadow 'Innerstellar' to my ever growing collection. All dome shaped and shimmery, this colour stood out for me as soon as I approached the stand. I am a sucker for a brown/ taupe/ shimmery shadow (the BEST shade for blue eyes, in my opinion) and at only £5, this rivals most of the highstreet brands out there price wise.

Poundland Makeup - Review and Swatches

When I heard that Poundland had launched a makeup range I was a little dubious, to say the least. They do already sell the odd nail polish and eyeshadow (all at £1, obvs) but these are often old stock/ discontinued colours, and never very appealing. When I ventured to my local Poundland I think I expected to find a few bits and pieces dotted around, but was presented with a whole counter. The brand is called Makeup Gallery, and each product has a cute little slogan on it, such as ‘Kohl me Beautiful' for eye pencils, ‘All About the Pout’ for lipsticks and ‘Time to Shine’ for nail polishes. Merchandising wise, the range would not look out of place in Superdrug or Boots and it definitely LOOKED a lot better than I had expected. I eagerly filled my basket with foundation, concealer, powder, blusher, liquid eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss, and went to the till with seven English pounds (!), feeling curious and excited to try my new bargain products. Now so far I was impressed with the sleek packaging, but as we all know it’s about the product, and I was wondering how sleek I would look with all of this bargain slap on my face....!

Until a couple of years ago, I saw primer as one of these non essential makeup items that just adds time to your routine, cost to your makeup bag and doesn’t really have a visible result. Fast forward a couple of years and I am now obsessed with the stuff. I don’t know what changed my mind about primer, I think I just heard my friend raving on about how good Smashbox photo finish primer was and I was sold. When I heard how it would ‘smooth my skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles AND make my foundation sit smoother’ I couldn’t wait to invest. My little legs took me to my local Boots and before I knew it I had shelled out £25.50 (!) on said primer.

Festival Beauty Must Haves....

Glastonbury has started today which means one thing....Festival season is finally here! I'll be going to Wireless and V this year, and have just booked Coachella in LA for next April- to say I'm excited is a slight understatement! Now I'll admit it, I love the whole 'daytime drinking/ music/ sunshine' aspect to a festival, however I'm not a fan of camping and living my life out of a tent. I miss my home comforts too much and trying to get ready in a tent that is too hot/ cold/ wet (depending on what the British weather decides to do) is my idea of a nightmare. The other part to festivals that I'm not a fan of is the packing. How are you supposed to condense your wardrobe/ accessories/ beauty essentials/ makeup down enough to fit into a bag that won't break you back (those walks from the car to the campsite are LONG) and also won't take up to much room?

Being the beauty lover that I am, I've put together my top festival picks that will make you look gorgeous whatever the weather....

St Tropez 'In Shower' Gradual Tan Review....

Being naturally pale (milk bottle legs spring to mind) I am a sucker for any product that will transform me into a bronzed goddess, without looking orange, overly fake or streaky. There is a fine line between having a healthy glow and looking like a tangerine, and I think you'll all agree that we have all dabbled in the perma-tanned look at one point or another (and this is NOT a good look girls!)

Beauty's Most Wanted....

Like most twenty-something females, I spend most of my hard earned cash on 2 things: 1) makeup and 2) beauty products (with some clothes, food and holidays thrown in for good measure!) I always think that if you are spending money on something that will help to improve/ maintain you looks, it's worth every penny. Let's be honest, we wear our face's every day so why not treat yourself? These are the hottest new products I am lusting over this week....

'The perfect palette for summer is here' I have been told by MUR. This compact is a dupe of Bobbi Brown's 'Surf and Sand' palette from last summer, and contains 12 shimmery gorgeous shades perfect for any sunkissed beach babe! Retailing at only £4, this will definitely be coming on my summer holiday with me.

This dual use product by Topshop beauty is a snip at £8.50, and can be used on both cheeks and lips to add a pop of colour, and fits perfectly into any makeup bag. It has a nifty little brush on the end to blend the product in, and I am loving this gorgeous peach shade.

Unless you have been living under a rock for a while you will know how on trend contouring is at the moment. With almost every brand offering products to achieve the perfect contoured look, it can be quite overwhelming deciding which one to go for. This little offering from Maybelline is easy peasy and comes in 2 shades (neither of which are orange, unlike of lot of the ones I have tried!) Simply use the brush in the base of the compact to firstly apply the darker colour under the cheek bones, at the sides of the nose and around the forehead, and then highlight along the nose, cheek bones and on the forehead using the lighter powder.

Another big trend it beauty at the moment is ombre lips, and Topshop Beauty have the perfect product to achieve this desirable look. Simply use the dark shade (which has a balm like texture) all over the lips, then apply the lighter shade on top to highlight and create a gorgeous two tone finish. Buy online or instore now for £9.

St Tropez's innovative new 'in shower' gradual tan has finally launched, and I could not be more excited! Use as part of your daily routine, and the brand promise that it will 'build a sunkissed, gradual glow' and 'provide up to 24 hour moisturisation.' It claims to give a streak free finish finish and also there is no need to moisturiser afterwards. It retails at £14.50 and is definitely a game changer for all us pale girls!

I am always on the lookout for new brushes to add to my collection, so I was beyond excited when I heard about Spectrum's new brush set. This limited edition beauty contains 10 of their best selling brushes, all in a clam shell clutch. Part of their Atlantis collection (I LOVE this new colour combo) this retails at £59.99 and is available now.

7) Benefit Porefessional: License to Blot
If, like me, you suffer from oily skin and often end up looking too 'caked' by the end of the day from all the powder you have applied, this product is for you! The newest offering in Benefit's 'Porefessional' range, this handy little blotting stick is £15.50 and is perfect for all those areas that love to shine- the chin, sides of the nose and the forehead. It helps reduce the appearance of pores, and also helps mattify for up to 6 hours.

#TuesdayTutorial- Makeup Revolution Essential Matte Palette

I am a big Makeup Revolution fan, in fact I recently featured their 'Essential Mattes' eyeshadow palette on my 'Beauty buys under £5' post. Yes, I know it is hard to believe but this 12 shade eyeshadow palette is only £4, so it would have been rude not to purchase!

I used it a handful of times before writing this post, and found myself sticking to 2 key looks- a more natural brown based look for daytime, and a more dramatic smoky look for the evening. Please read on to see how I achieved these....
Look 1- Daytime Browns
Using shades 5, 6, 7 and 8 from the palette (as labelled above) I created a contoured natural daytime look.

STEP 1
Apply shade 7 liberally all over the movable part of the eyelid. The purpose of this is to create a natural base for the other colours to layer onto nicely.

STEP 2
Using a small brush (this Spectrum crease brush is ideal) take shade 5 and apply to the outer half of the eyelid. Work the shadow into the base colour with and then blend with a blending brush so there are no harsh lines.

STEP 3
Now take shade 6 and repeat the above step. The idea is to gradually build the colour up so remember to stick to the movable part of the eyelid ensure you are blending the edges.
Tip- Be patient and remember it is not about going straight in with the darkest colour!

STEP 4
Now take you darkest shade, shade 8. I love this as it is a taupe/ mushroom shade and looks great layered on top of browns. Go back in with your small brush and apply this gently from the centre point of the crease of your eyelid, then follow the crease towards the outside of the eye. Once you have done this you are going to make a v shape from the end of your crease line coming back to the outer corner of your eye.
Tip- Remember to keep to the natural crease and don't go outside it.

STEP 5
Blend blend blend! Once you have blended out the darkest colour nicely, you are going to go back in with your small brush and repeat step 4 again. Keep alternating this step with blending until you are happy with the level of colour and final look.

STEP 6
Apply shade 8 lightly under your lash line, and then use a liquid eyeliner to frame the eyes. I've used black as I like slightly more definition, but go for brown if you want to keep it quite natural. This one from Mac is great and comes in black and brown. I apply it with this fine liner brush from Spectrum. Finish off with lashings of mascara and voila! The perfect natural daytime eye.
Look 2- Smoky Purple
Using shades 10, 11 and 12 (as labelled above) I created a smoky purple look which is perfect for a dramatic evening look. This can get a bit messy so a little tip would be to do your eyes before your face makeup so you can easily clean up around the eye afterwards!

STEP 1
Using the lightest purple shade in the palette (shade 12), take a large flat brush (like this one from Mac) and apply all over the moveable part of the eyelid. You can go slightly outside the crease line as this is a slightly more dramatic look, but don't go to mad (stay away from the eyebrows!)

STEP 2
Next, take shade 11, which is a slightly darker purple and use a small brush (like Spectrum one used for the first look) and apply all the way along the crease line, in a back and forth motion. Once you are happy with the level of colour, use your blending brush to blend the colour onto the eyelid.
Tip- Work in circular motions and do not be afraid to use a bit of pressure, but be careful not to drag the eyelid.

STEP 3
Now is the bit that may get a little messy! Shade 10 is a highly pigmented black shadow which is quite powdery so be prepared to end up with black specs all over your face (hence the suggestion to do your eyes before your foundation!) With your small shadow brush follow step 2 (follow the crease line and then blend in towards the centre of the eye) however this time you don't want to take the shadow and further than the centre point of the lid. You don't want any black eyeshadow on the inner half of your eyelid.
Tip- Tap the excess powder off before applying to the eyelid, this will prevent too much from dropping onto the face.

STEP 4
Take your blending brush again and really work the black colour into the lid. You want to avoid leaving any harsh lines and you want the colours to blend together so there is not a line where one colour ends and the other starts. Work the colour outwards at the corner of your eyes which will elongate the eyes slightly. I definitely need this with my piggy little eyes! Quite often you can lose the shape of the eye where you have blended do if this happens, blend a bit of concealer onto the tip of a cotton bud, then trace it round the eye which will erase any unwanted bits. Always powder the area after this and then go back in and blend the edge out again as the concealer may leave a line.

STEP 5
Use a kohl eye liner on the inner part of your eye (this Rimmel one has been my absolute favourite for years) and then trace it along the top of the eyelid, and under the lashes as well. As this is a smoky look you don't want any sharp lines, so go over the top with your blender blush for a smudgy finish.

STEP 6
Apply mascara, then if you want to go very dramatic, try fake eyelashes. These pre glued ones from Eyelure are great as you don't have to faff about with glue!
What do you think? Have you tried this or any of the other Makeup Revolution palettes?
